Marquette head women’s basketball coach Megan Duffy has signed a contract extension with the university through the 2026-27 season, Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Scholl announced Friday morning.
Named the program’s sixth head coach on April 10, 2019, Duffy had originally signed a six-year deal with the school. She was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign.
“Megan has led the program to a tremendous amount of success in her first two seasons and we look forward to that continuing into the future,” Scholl said. “The extension is a result of the hard work she and her staff have invested in the team, providing a transformative experience for the student-athletes, both on and off the court.”
Through two seasons at the helm, Duffy has guided the Golden Eagles to a 43-15 (.741) overall record, including a 27-9 (.750) mark in BIG EAST Conference action. MU has made a pair of trips to the league tourney title game during her tenure, claiming two runner-up conference regular season finishes as well. Marquette earned an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament in 2021 and was poised to do the same the previous year prior to the cancellation of the 2019-20 season.
“In just a short time, Marquette has meant a great deal to our family,” Duffy said. “I appreciate the commitment Dr. Lovell, Bill Scholl and Marquette University have shown towards our basketball program.
“We will continue to work tirelessly for our student-athletes, alumni, and fans,” Duffy added. “I look forward to the process of building more great teams and showcasing our incredible women.”
The Golden Eagles’ record of 43-15 is the best two-year start by a head coach in program history. Along with a NCAA tourney appearance and fifth-straight trip to the BIG EAST title matchup, the team’s 2020-21 highlights included a school-record 11 victories in true road games. The roster also featured BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year Selena Lott and Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree Lauren Van Kleunen.
