Kansas City Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin announced the contract extension of Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jacie Hoyt. She will remain the Roos head coach through the 2022-23 basketball season, which would mark her sixth season on the sidelines. Heading into her third season, she already holds the best conference win percentage (.533) in school history.
In 2018-19, Hoyt led the program to its’ best finish (16-15) since the 2011-12 season. The nine conference wins were the highest output since joining the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) seven years ago.
“I am very grateful to chancellor Agrawal and Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin for their belief in my leadership and support of our program,” said Hoyt. “I would also like to thank my staff and our players who have worked tirelessly to elevate our program. I absolutely love the people I am surrounded by within our program and community, and I want to continue pouring everything I have into making it something for all of us to be very proud of.”
The six-year stretch would make Hoyt the second-longest tenured coach in the 40-year all-time history of women’s basketball. Nancy Norman was at the helm for seven years beginning with the 1981-82 season.
Under her leadership last season, Hoyt’s offense ranked No. 25 in the NCAA in points per game (76.0) and tied for 18th in offensive rebounds per game (15.0). She tutored point guard Erika Mattingly, who claimed selections to the 2019 All-WAC First Team, Defensive Team, All-Tournament Team and Newcomer Team. Mattingly became the first player in WAC league history to lead in the conference in all three major statistical categories of points, assists and steals. Her Roos advanced to the WAC semifinals and earned its highest tournament seed (No. 4) in its WAC history.

Hoyt was named the 10th head coach in women’s basketball history on May 11, 2017. She arrived from Kansas State, where she spent three years (2014-17) as an assistant coach. Prior to that, she was an assistant coach at Nevada (2011-14). She was a team captain and standout point guard at Wichita State from 2006-09.
Hoyt stands 27-34 (.443) overall through two seasons at Kansas City, including a 16-14 (.533) mark in the WAC.
