UMKC head women’s basketball coach Jacie Hoyt finalized her coaching staff on Tuesday with the hiring of Robyne Bostick as associate head coach.
“Robyne will be a great asset to our staff and team because she has a great basketball mind,” commented Hoyt. “Her diverse background as a player and coach will have an immediate impact on the floor in practices and in games.”
Bostick enters her first season at UMKC after leading the way as interim head coach at Northern Arizona University for the 2016-17 season. Overall, Bostick played a vital role on the Lumberjacks’ coaching staff for five seasons, working primarily with the team’s post players. She will continue post player development on Hoyt’s staff, as well as work on the implementation of offensive and defensive strategies and scheduling.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to join Jacie’s staff, the UMKC Athletics family and the Kansas City community,” commented Bostick. “Jacie has a clear plan for turning the women’s basketball program into a championship team and I am very excited to help make that happen.”
While at Northern Arizona University, Bostick coached two players who earned the Big Sky Outstanding Freshman award, eight players who were named to the Academic All-Conference team, including a two time Academic All-American, as well as five players who earned all-conference recognition.
Bostick has over 10 years of collegiate women’s basketball coaching experience, all at the Division-I level, and joined the Lumberjacks coaching staff after serving as the associate coach at Long Island University. She has also served as an assistant coach at Princeton, Air Force, Vanderbilt, and James Madison.
From 2004 to 2006, Bostick worked as a morale, welfare, and recreation supervisor on United States military bases in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Bostick is a member of the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame after a storied playing career at Saint Joseph’s University. As a senior, Bostick led the Hawks in scoring (15.3 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 rebounds per game). As SJU’s captain, she earned a multitude of awards following that season, as she was named a Kodak District II All-American, first-team All-Atlantic 10 and Most Valuable Player of the Hawk Classic. She was the Big 5 Rookie of the Year in 1991 and currently ranks 10th on the all-time field goal percentage list (.494). Bostick helped lead Saint Joseph’s to a Big 5 title during each of her four seasons and was inducted to the school’s Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.
Bostick graduated from Saint Joseph’s in 1993 with a bachelor’s in Psychology and earned a master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science with an emphasis in Sport Administration from Northern Colorado in 2009.
