UMass Lowell Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jenerrie Harris announced the hiring of David Saur and Emma Golen as assistant coaches on Wednesday.
“Our women’s basketball program will benefit greatly from their overall enthusiasm and passion for the game,” said Harris in welcoming Saur and Golen to UMass Lowell. “We will benefit from their Division I experience as we continue to expand as program.”
Both newcomers come from successful programs. Saur was an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator at Stetson University. Golen served the two years as a graduate assistant under Kim Arico at Michigan.
Saur is expected to assist in all areas of the basketball program and coordinate the River Hawks recruiting efforts.
“David’s knowledge about UMass Lowell and his eagerness to help contribute to the process were equally impressive,” said Harris. “I’m looking forward to having David work with our players, as well as our staff.”
During his time with the Hatters, the team reached the Women’s National Invitational Tournament in consecutive seasons, with Saur mentoring the post players.
“I want to thank Coach Harris for this exciting opportunity to help her build this program from the ground floor,” said Saur. “I’m pumped to be back in the northeast and am excited to serve our players on and off the court.”
As one of the nation’s youngest recruiting coordinators, Saur’s first Stetson recruiting class was ranked in the top twenty-percent (first in the Atlantic Sun Conference), according to the All-Star Girl’s Report.
While working with the post players Saur developed A-Sun Freshman of the Year Amber Porter and First Team All-Conference member Sasha Sims, Porter was also named to the first team. Sims and Porter ranked first and second on the team in scoring and blocked shots. Porter posted the highest single-season blocks total in school history (129) and the fifth highest blocks total for a freshman in NCAA history.
Saur also spent time at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2012-2013) and California University of Pennsylvania (2011-2012) as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to those stints he spent 2008-2011 being an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for both the men’s and women’s teams at Thiel College.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Thiel in 2011 and his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2012.
