Northwestern women’s basketball head coach Joe McKeown announced today the addition of Shauna Green to his coaching staff. Green replaces Allison Guth who was recently named the head coach at Yale University.

“I am really excited to have Shauna join our staff,” said McKeown. “She brings great experience and energy to Northwestern, and she really cares about the student-athletes. We look forward to welcoming her and her family into our program.”

Green comes to NU after serving as the assistant coach at Dayton for the last three seasons. During the 2014-15 season, Green helped lead the Flyers to their sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and the program’s first Regional Final. Last year, UD posted a 28-7 overall record, tying the 2012-13 season for most wins in UD’s modern DI era. While at Dayton, she helped lead a program that saw two student-athletes selected in the 2015 WNBA draft. It was the first time an Atlantic 10 team had two players drafted since 2011.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Northwestern basketball family,” Green said. “I am very grateful to Coach McKeown for giving me this wonderful opportunity to coach at such a prestigious academic institution while competing in one of the best basketball conferences in the country. I could not be more excited to join this great staff and get to work.”

She joined the Flyers’ staff after serving five seasons as an assistant coach for the Providence College women’s basketball program. She helped the Friars to 19 wins in 2009-10, their most successful season since 1991.

Green headed to Providence after serving as head coach of the women’s basketball program at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, for two seasons from 2005-07. Prior to her stint as the head coach of the Duhawks, Green served as an assistant coach at Loras for three seasons (2002-05).

In her first year as head coach, Green turned around a team that got off to an 0-6 start and advanced them all the way to the Iowa Conference semifinal game. After the slow start, Loras rallied to win 12 of its last 21 games to finish fourth in the Iowa Conference with a 9-7 mark and a final record of 12-15.

In 2006-07, Green continued to make tremendous strides with the Loras program. The Duhawks finished tied for second place in the Iowa Conference with a 12-4 conference record and a 17-10 overall record.

A native of Clinton, Iowa, Green enjoyed a stellar playing career at the NCAA Division I level for Canisius College from 1998-2002. Green was a four-time All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection and was a three-time Team MVP. Green is the Golden Griffin’s all-time leading scorer, having finished her career with 2,012 points. She also ranks second all-time at Canisius in rebounding with a total of 910. Green’s collegiate success also extended into the classroom as she earned multiple conference and district all-academic honors.

Green is a 2002 graduate of Canisius with a degree in business marketing. She went on to earn a master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic administration from Loras. She is married to Andy Green.
