Earl M. Hilton III, North Carolina A&T State University’s director of athletics, renewed the contract of head women’s basketball coach Tarrell Robinson on Friday. Robinson is renewed through 2021.

“I am truly blessed to have the support I have from our university Board of Trustees, Chancellor Harold Martin and Athletic Director Earl Hilton,” said Robinson. “This extension tells me that our program is representing our illustrious university and athletics department well. I am fortunate to have a loyal staff and student athletes committed toward consistently elevating this program to the highest standards both academically and athletically. The best is truly yet to come for Lady Aggie Basketball.”

Robinson, 38, is among the best and brightest young coaches in Division I women’s basketball. He has won a MEAC tournament title, a MEAC regular-season title, has three postseason appearances including an NCAA berth and two WNIT appearances and has finished second twice and third once during various MEAC regular seasons, all before age 40. In March he took the nation’s fourth-youngest coaching staff and won the program’s third MEAC title with a 65-46 win over Coppin State in the championship game. N.C. A&T finished the 2015-16 season 19-12 overall and 12-4 in the MEAC and earned a share of the MEAC regular-season title, won the MEAC tournament title and earned a first-round automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Robinson has compiled an 85-40 record over four seasons. He is the only basketball coach in school history (men or women) to open a N.C. A&T tenure with three consecutive 20-win seasons. Robinson’s teams have also been stellar in the classroom. In 2015, it was announced the Aggies had a perfect single-year APR score of 1000. By the end of the 2015-16 season, five players on Robinson’s team had already earned their undergraduate degrees. Four of those players were and still are pursuing master’s degrees while the other is pursuing another undergraduate degree.

Robinson is a 2001 graduate of N.C. A&T and a former men’s basketball player.
