Kira Mowen has been hired as an assistant coach, Milwaukee women’s basketball head coach Kyle Rechlicz announced today.

“I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Kira Mowen as our new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator,” Rechlicz said. “Coach Mowen possesses great leadership skills and a passion for competition, with student-athlete success always front and center of the winning equation. She fits who we are on and off the court and is very well respected amongst her peers. I know our players, especially the guards, will learn valuable information from her as player development is one of her best attributes. Her experience at the Division-I level, as a coach and player, will undoubtedly take our program to new heights.”

Mowen comes to Milwaukee after spending the past seven seasons as an assistant coach at Davidson. She helped the Wildcats to a pair of 22-win seasons, including a league title in the Southern Conference in the 2011-12 season.

“I am thrilled to accept a position to work at such a prestigious institution, within an athletic department that thrives on enriching the lives of its student-athletes,” Mowen said. “I am very thankful to head coach Kyle Rechlicz for the opportunity she has provided me, and I cannot wait to help her build on the foundation of success she has established.  This opportunity to work with her and at Milwaukee is very exciting, and I’m looking forward to getting to work.”

Prior to Davidson, Mowen spent two years as a graduate assistant at Texas State.

Mowen is no stranger to the Horizon League, having graduated from Youngstown State in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. While at YSU, she played two seasons for the Penguins. She also spent time at nearby Illinois, playing two seasons with the Fighting Illini.

A Pennsylvania native, Mowen earned a masters of education with a specialization sports management at Texas State in 2010.
