University of Michigan women’s basketball head coach Kim Barnes Arioco announced the addition of Toyelle Wilson as the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach on Monday (May 20). Wilson spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach at Baylor and was the head coach at Prairie View A&M for three years.

“I am so excited with the addition of Toyelle to our program,” Barnes Arico said. “She brings so much experience with her and knows what it takes to win. She has won at every level she has been at, as a player, a head coach and an assistant coach. Bringing that national championship mindset to the players in our program will only help us continue to grow.

“We have known each other for a long time, both being Jersey girls who come from similar backgrounds and worked our way up. She has an ability to connect with people and build lasting relationships. She is really going to help us on the recruiting trail with her experience of recruiting top players from all over the country. She brings such energy, enthusiasm and knowledge with her on court that I know our players are going to love working with and learning from her.”

“I am extremely blessed and excited to begin this new chapter in my coaching career in Ann Arbor,” Wilson said. “I love what Coach Arico is doing at Michigan. She is well respected in the coaching community and I can’t wait to be a part of something special. I want to come in and bring energy, passion and national championship pedigree to this already successful program

Over the last six seasons at Baylor, the Lady Bears were the 2019 national champions, won six regular season Big 12 Conference championship and five conference tournament titles. Baylor also made four NCAA Elite Eight appearances and one NCAA Sweet 16 during her time in Waco.

On the recruiting trail, Wilson helped Baylor recruit top-10 recruiting classes every year, including last season’s No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

Prior to joining the Baylor staff, she led Prairie View A&M to three-straight SWAC Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. She compiled a 55-43 record in her three seasons as the program’s head coach. Prior to accepting the head coach position, Wilson was the Panthers’ top assistant for four years, and spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Robert Morris University.

Wilson was one of 30 coaches across the nation that participated in the Center for Coaching Excellence (CCE) by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The CCE is an elite program for select basketball coaches and is designed to provide college women’s basketball coaches with the professional skills and personal ethics training necessary to be exceptional leaders. Wilson is also a member of the WBCA.

A native of Voorhees, New Jersey, Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Manhattan College in 2003 and was a four-year letter winner for the women’s basketball team. She was a team captain and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors while leading the Jaspers to an NCAA Tournament berth and a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in 2003.
